Skilled Worker Immigration to Canada
Canada welcomes thousands of Skilled workers each year. Selection for permanent residence is based on education, work experience, knowledge of English and/or French, and other criteria that have been shown to help them become economically established in Canada.
The Point System
Applications are based on the point system which assesses the likelihood of becoming successfully established in Canada. An applicant will need to achieve a total of 67 points out of a possible 100 available to qualify under this category. The 6 factors in the point system include:
- Age (10 points)
- Education (25 points)
- Work experience (21 points)
- Language skills (English and French) (24 points)
- Arranged employment (10 points)
- Adaptability (10 points)
A skilled worker must also have either:
- an arranged employment offer
- lived legally in Canada for one year as a student or temporary foreign worker
- a minimum of one year of full time experience in one or more of the following 29 high-demand occupations listed below:
- Restaurant and Food Service Managers
- Primary Production Managers (Except Agriculture)
- Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management
- Insurance Adjusters and Claims Examiners
- Biologists and Related Scientists
- Architects
- Specialist Physicians
- General Practitioners and Family Physicians
- Dentists
- Pharmacists
- Physiotherapists
- Registered Nurses
- Medical Radiation Technologists
