Applicants under the Interim Pathway for Caregivers, along with their families, have all the reasons to get excited. If they received a positive eligibility assessment for their application for permanent residence (APR), they will be eligible for Canada open work permit application. This is even while waiting for the processing of their APR.
However, the good news does not end with applicants alone. Spouse or common-law partner and other family members who are in status, on implied or eligible for restoration, are all eligible for an A70 open work permit.
This opportunity is a big help for family members who are still struggling with finding a job. The open work permit is not a job-specific kind of work permit. Therefore, holders can work for any Canadian employer even without an offer of employment confirmation. Also, family members with open work permit do not need to have a positive Labor Market Impact Assessment from Employment Social Development Canada. Even the proofs that the employer submitted an offer of employment through the Employer Portal and paid the compliance fee are no longer necessary.
The processing fee for the Canada open work permit application of caregivers and their family members is $155 CAD. However, they no longer have to pay the open work permit holder fee of $100 CAD. Aside from the advantages of job hunting and employment, the small savings on government fees is welcome news.
To be eligible for the Interim Pathway, applicants must work in Canada as a home childcare provider or a home support worker. The work experience must be for two years from November 30, 2014. The number of applications for acceptance has no limit. However, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada strictly follows the schedule of submission. Applications must be in from March 4 to June 4.
